How to make a Sorry I Lied video from one photo

Make three costume edits, keep your original as the final reveal, and export a captioned video.

To make a Sorry I Lied video, upload your original photo, choose a costume theme, generate three AI edits, then arrange them from most elaborate to most honest. Keep your original as slide four. Review the captions and export a silent video; add music in the app where you post it.

Before you begin

Use a JPG, PNG or WebP file no larger than 10 MB. Choose a clear photo of one adult or a pet, with enough of the outfit visible to show a transformation. You must own the photo or have permission to edit it. Avoid children, identification documents and sensitive background information. Read the photo guide if the face or clothing is hard to see.

You can explore the editor and assemble existing images without signing in. AI image generation requires an account and credits. Three new edits use 15 credits. Each redo uses another 5 credits; caption changes and repeat exports do not use credits.

1. Upload the ending first

Open the Sorry I Lied AI generator and upload the real photo. The fourth slide is reserved for this image. The editor starts blank unless this browser already contains your personal draft.

The optional butterfly demo is an example you open yourself. Its images are not a preview of what the AI will produce from your upload. Return to your own story before creating a personal reveal.

2. Choose a costume theme

Butterfly, princess, astronaut, fairy, witch and vampire presets describe three levels of costume detail. Each AI edit uses the same original reference image. This helps keep the framing consistent, but it does not guarantee identical faces, hands or background details.

Choose a theme that fits the pose and clothing in your starting image. A waist-up portrait leaves less room for a gown or spacesuit than a full-body photo.

3. Generate and review all three edits

Start generation and keep the page open while tasks run. Completed images stay in your draft. If you leave and return, the editor checks pending tasks before continuing; avoid repeatedly submitting while a request is still being checked.

Compare each result with the original. Look at the eyes, mouth, hands and costume details, not just the overall colour. If only one image needs changing, replace it with your own edit or redo that slide. You do not need to discard the other results.

4. Write the confession

Select a slide and edit its caption. A simple sequence is “My costume this year” → “Okay, the wings were smaller” → “And a little more homemade” → “I'm so sorry. I lied.” Adapt the words to what the pictures actually show.

Play the preview. If a caption takes longer to read than the slide stays on screen, shorten the sentence or increase the story length.

5. Export and add sound

Choose your frame, length and quality, then use the video export button. Its label shows whether this browser exports MP4 or WebM. Keep the tab visible during export. You can also download individual images for a photo carousel.

Exports are silent. Add a sound you have permission to use in TikTok, Reels or your editor. Preview the final upload before posting because cropping and audio timing can differ between apps. See download and sound help if something is missing.
